I don’ t know about Happiest Baby on the Block, but after logging loads of miles in the jogging stroller and the bike trailer over the past year, Granola Baby might win the prize for fittest baby on the block.
My 4-year-old, though, has been at a harder age to join me on runs this year. He’s been too old to sit in the stroller and too young to bike for several miles. But with school out in two days and more than a week until camp, it’s time to toughen up. We took our first trial run in what will have to be “family fitness” over the next couple of weeks. My son strapped on his helmet, stuffed his pockets with pretzels (in case he starved on the way) and set off to bike alongside me for 3.5 miles.
He managed to bike at a 11-minute mile pace (not bad for little legs and 12-in. bike wheels) and even ran up Mt. Trashmore with me. Looks like he should do just fine when we all head to run/bike in the Forest Preserve on Friday. Wish me luck!
Oh, and to cool down after a steamy ride, we made sorbet for our expert cyclist and a mocha smoothie for me.
