Growing up in Columbus, Ohio I was taught to despise Michigan as much as I loved the OSU Buckeyes. To this day, just the thought of the Wolverines conjures up a four-letter word version of their fight song.

To understand Buckeye fever, you really have to visit a mall in Columbus. On any given day, even when football season is long over, 9 out of 10 people present are wearing scarlet and gray. No joke.

Who would have guessed that I would marry a Michigan alum?

It’s a good thing the OSU vs. Michigan game is on a Shabbos. We only have a minute of going over the game together after it’s over.

But one thing we can agree on are chocolate covered peanut butter treats. I don’t care if you cheer for OSU, Michigan or you can’t even tell a football from a soccer ball—who doesn’t love eating buckeyes?

KRISPY BUCKEYE TREATS
3/4 cup peanut butter
2t honey
1.5 cup rice krispies
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1T coconut oil or Earth Balance

Mix peanut butter, honey and rice krispies in a bowl and then spread evenly in an 8×8 pan. Melt chocolate and oil in a pot over low heat, stirring constantly. Spread or drizzle chocolate over peanut butter mixture and store in the refrigerator at least 20 minutes before serving. Slice them into squares when they are cold.

  1. Still waiting for the pumpkin granola bars- also wanted to know if you’ve seen a blueberry cereal bar recipe- I need better healthy things to eat when I don’t have time for breakfast and just plain fruit doesn’t work for me…..
